Evaluation

At your first dental appointment with Dublin Dental Care, you will be asked to fill out a form with your health information, the dentist or hygienist will conduct some evaluations based upon the questionnaires.

Evaluation Steps

Evaluate your overall health and oral hygiene
Evaluate your risk of tooth decay, root decay, and gum or bone disease
Evaluate your need for tooth restoration or tooth replacement
Check your bite and jaw for problems
Demonstrate proper cleaning techniques for your teeth or dentures
Assess how much fluoride you’re getting through your diet and use of oral hygiene products
Take dental X-rays or, if necessary, do other diagnostic procedures

Treatment

After the initial examination, our dental experts will perform necessary treatments upon patients’ and associated insurance companies’ approval. This is a guide to the main treatments carried out by dentists. Some are readily available at Dublin Dental Care, while some may only be available at Dublin Dental Care in certain circumstances. Some may only be available from a specialist working in a dental hospital.

Bridges

A bridge is a solid replacement for a missing tooth or teeth. It’s made by taking an impression of the surrounding teeth, which will eventually support the bridge. A bridge is typically created from precious metal and porcelain and will be fixed in patient’s mouth (not like dentures, which can be removed).

Crowns

A crown is a cap that totally covers a real tooth. It’s made from either metal, or porcelain and metal, and is fixed in your mouth. Crowns can be fitted where a tooth has broken, decayed or been damaged, or just to make a tooth look better. To fit a crown, the old tooth will need to be drilled down so it’s like a small peg onto which the crown will be fixed. Crowns cannot be done on the same day, it can take some time for the lab to prepare a new crown.

Fillings

Fillings used to repair a hole in the tooth caused by decay. The most common type of filler is a material including mercury, silver, tin, copper and zinc made from a mixture of metals. Your dentist will fill according to their clinical needs to provide the most suitable type. This includes white fillings, if available.

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment (also known as endodontics) tackles infection at the center of a tooth (the root canal system). When the blood or nerve supply of the tooth has become infected, if root canal treatment is not performed, the infection will grow and the tooth may eventually required to be removed. During treatment, all the infection is cleaned from inside the root canal system. The root canal is filled and the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to stop it from becoming infected again. Root canal treatment usually requires more than one visit to the dentist.

Scale and polish

This means when your teeth are professionally cleaned by the hygienist. It requires carefully removing the deposits that build up on the teeth (tartar).

Braces

Braces (orthodontic treatment) teeth straightening or moving teeth to improve appearance, and how they work. Brackets can be removable, so you can put them and mop up, or fixed, so stick to your teeth, you can not carry them out. May be made of metal, plastic or ceramic. Invisible braces are made of clear plastic.

Implants

Implants are an alternative to fixed dentures. They may be the only option if the tooth loss caused by contraction of the mouth, so that it can no longer supported prosthesis. If the tooth has been knocked out or is badly broken, see a dentist immediately. Your dentist may fit a denture or bridge. If you need an implant, you’ll be referred to a dental hospital.

Teeth whitening by all means is a procedure to get your teeth lighter color.
